TWN TI: Revolution in two-stage drainage of roof surfaces

The classic installation of the second stage of drainage is a rather laborious, inaccurate and multi-step matter. Unfortunately, there are few spaces for error in it, which can disrupt the integrity of the roof, possibly reduce the functionality of the roof drain. However, this problem is solved by our innovative product — TWN TI.

After the safety insulation of the roof or vapor barrier is completed, one or more layers of thermal insulation are laid in various forms — e.g. polystyrene plates. After laying all layers of polystyrene plates, as well as a separation and protective layer from geotextile, the laying of the main waterproofing (in particular, from mPVC films) continues.
In the place of drainage (drain) it is necessary to omit or cut the necessary hole in the thermal insulation to install the TWN extension. This hole in most cases has an angular shape (cut with a hacksaw, or by omitting insulation) and is larger than the dimensions of the attachment. Subsequently, after installing the attachment, it is recommended, if possible, to fill the free spaces between the attachment and the thermal insulation with foam.
The next difficult step in placing the TWN extension In the layer of thermal insulation, the standard recommendation is to reduce the height and, accordingly, to install the TWN extension 20-30 mm lower than the surrounding waterproofing level for better water drainage. This reduction must be realized on thermal insulation, which is very laborious.
Therefore, we decided to prevent these imperfections in the assembly, simplify the assembly and began to produce a heat-insulating part, with which the above problems can be solved.

A number of problems with the classic installation of two-stage drainage are solved by our new thermal insulation part. Significantly speeds up and simplifies installation by completely eliminating the need to modify as well as create a hole in the thermal insulation. The extension of the roof drain is directly inserted into the exact shape in the polystyrene insulation board.

Thermal insulation part made of EPS 150 foamed polystyrene is designed for the extension of the roof drain and its dimensions are 600 × 600 × 100 mm. It is mainly intended for use in two-stage drainage of flat roofs for the following types of unheated TWN roof drain extensions: TWN v220, TWN v300, TWN v500.

- Laying of the thermal insulation piece is possible directly on the vapor barrier layer. In the case of a greater power of thermal insulation in the place of the drain (more than 120 mm), we lay on a heat-insulating layer.
- The thermal insulation part replaces the thermal insulation at the site of the roof extension TWN, therefore it is necessary to omit the insulation space in this place. The floor plan diameter of the piece is 600 × 600 mm, the height is 100 mm.
- We recommend anchoring the part to the support base at 4 points using telescopic anchors. If the TWN roof extension is anchored, separate anchoring of the TWN TI part is not necessary. The upper surface of the product should be at least 20 mm lower than the surface of the adjacent roof plane.
- Next, we proceed with the installation of the TWN extension and the waterproofing layer of the roof.
